99000 plays MidCity. Plus update of show of some kind

So 99000ad just played over at Pit and Peel, and hot dog, er - hot crawdads, it was swell. Thanks for coming out and thanks to all our new drinking buddies. Don't miss Widowers this weekend in Lafayette, and follow the 99000ad Facebook page for news about our latest. Just a teaser - it involves the Shaw Center. Weeeeee!

the launch of Southern States, 99000 rocks Lake Chuck, and BABIES!

Hey!
Well, all things look like they're a go. Shows have been added. Photos have been taken. Sometime within the next 24 hours, the Southern States facebook page will finally launch, issuing a new/old era of your old pals making music. First show is Aug 29 at Red Star. The band will open for some of our other pals, The Monels. It's gonna be a rocking good time, and everybody's stoked to the core. Come on out and shake it with us.
We're also happy to announce that 99000's trip to Lake Charles last week was a resounding success, as usual. There was much to drink, helping the band to their uncomfortable tradition of driving home hungover as hell the next day. We're gonna be bringing our happy asses back on over there before too long, so Lake Chuck - brace yourselves. For now, the next show is at ye olde Chelsea's here in the BR. As of press time, we're hard at work to bring our friends Lingus back to one of their haunts, but it remains to be seen. Guess there's only one way to find out.

OH! And before we get too long out without mentioning it, Love Affair family member and long time great, Michael Talley, has a new babe on the way. Congrats to him and the very lovely Kat Smith as they welcome another rocker into the fold.

God bless, and keep on rocking.

Sincerely,
The Help

Get your cowboy boots and hats out of the bin. It's time! YEEEEHAW!

We kind of teased it a little bit back in the last post, but there's really no sense in trying to keep burying it. They keep getting together at some behest, and since it looks like nobody has anything better to do on Monday nights, then why not keep it going? There's a new act here at Love Affair thanks to country newcomer Sam Neal, the greatest western music star you've never heard of. But all that's about to change. This guy showed up around town a couple months ago looking for a place to jam. Next thing we know, he's assembled a hodgepodge band full of some misfits he'd culled together around Nashville. Thanks to cohorts like Kentucky "Wild Beaver" Wilson, Guy Starr, and several other dudes who refuse to tell us their names, we think he's gonna be the next big thing. A mixture of standard pop-country delights mixed in with, well, we aren't sure - let's just say that he and his people are slowly working out some of the easiest listening stuff that's ever been considered Love Affair palatable. And even that may be taking it a little too far. Maybe they just need money. Who knows? And really, who cares?

Just head for the Bear Creek Western Store, because whether we like it or not , the SOUTHERN STATES are coming soon.

AMERICA!

Thanks and stuff.

Friends, seeing as it's November, maybe we should throw out some thanks. First of all, it's been an amazing couple of weeks for the Love Affair Family. The Way High Men, FRSS, and 99000AD have all played multiple shows amongst many a hellraising crowd. Plus thanks to scrambling to put together a lineup for a fundraiser, November also brought about a Judge Genius reunion. Which resulted in many a person also getting drunk. Which is always a good time. Right? RIGHT!

November has also brought about a Battle of the Bands which was entered by 2 Love Affair folks. After the initial battling, 99000AD was lucky enough to move on, thanks to begging every family member we have with a computer, a smart phone, or even AOL dialup. Not to mention countless trades of high school classmates, middle school classmates, work friends, and quite frankly, many people who didn't even know the members were even IN a band. But now comes the hard part. It's one thing to get in. Now they have to put trust in their musical abilities. (GASP...)

Also, it gives us great hesitation and pooled frustration to ALMOST announce a new act coming to the label. And we almost just did it. But it's not quite ready. So settle back down.

So as the leaves turn and fall off the trees. And the air gets a little cooler, let's all take a second to enjoy the heat on in the house. And remember back to the time the heat got cut off in our collective rent houses and apartments. Nothing like watching TV on the couch with full winter coats on. Nothing like seeing your breath in your own living room.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH November. We'll drink to that. YEEEEEEEEEEEAH DAWG!

Yours,
The kids in charge.

Shows, Judge Genius returns, and more...

Many thanks to all our friends who came out to Chelsea's last Friday night and Twist of Lime this past weekend. It was a couple of super awesome times. Family Robot Seizure Show rocked it at Chelsea's with tales of Ray Combs, alarm clocks, and more. Way High Men body slammed your ears with tales of drunken debauchery - once NOT in costume (at Chelsea's) and once IN costume (at Twist of Lime). If you missed it, then poopee on you.

Next up, don't miss Judge Genius and a slew of other awesome bands playing a benefit for a friend's daughter on Nov 2. Marliegh Walley needs several surgeries and we're there to help. With the power to rock, and with your money, of course. Click HERE (https://www.facebook.com/events/247245642089868/?ref_dashboard_filter=calendar) for more info. We play early, like 4:30ish early, so don't screw around and miss it. Ok?

Second off, 99000AD makes a (hopefully) triumphant rocking time at Gameday following the LSU/Alabama game on Nov 9. Join us as we play our songs, watch you get drunk, and then sneak in scores of covers from other bands you're probably heard. Event forthcoming, so watch the internets.

Dan Thompson 1979-2013

You know, a person close to me, (who doesn't have much of a way with words) said something the other day - harsh as it came off - that made me think. He'd heard about Dan through the barrage of facebook smatterings, and said "Dude, what happened to your friend Dan?" and I told him. Then he hit me with "Why do your friends keep dying?" I was like, well... Hmmmm... And he backed off, with a quick "Sorry about that." But I had already kind of laughed it off. Later on, I thought about it again, because it really is kind of shitty. You lose friends as you get older from just a numbers standpoint. But you shouldn't lose them like this... Right?

Later on, me and Brandon D were talking about it and he said that when you roll with rock and rollers, it's tough to keep everyone in a cocoon. I said, yeah I mean, if we were some church folk who hung out at Healing Place, maybe this kind of bullshit wouldn't happen. But that's not what we are and it's not what we do. We live life to motherfucking live it.

If you never go out and be hardcore, maybe you'll make it to 90. But at the end of the road, what can you say? "Well, I made it... but I never did shit." That's a boring journey. Not saying I don't want us all to get there, but not at the expense of being dudes who never do anything.

Dan Thompson died on a roof. Not in a Florida retirement community. Not of a life sucking disease. It was a terrible accident, and there's nothing we can do about it but look at his book. His chronicle. What did he do in life? He fucking owned it.

In the next couple of nights, the whiskey will flow and blood will spill. And to the fellow that said that to me, well I thought it was funny. Some people would get all butthurt but not me. And not Dan. He'd have grinned. It was kind of funny. And who laughs last? Maybe other people, at 90. But it'll be a wrinkly old boring laugh. We live fast. We live hard. And we live awesome. Dan and Justin, you guys get the jam room ready. We'll see you one day in heaven. And man, it's gonna be awesome.

Love Affair Records Super Show Recap

As I write this, the Love Affair Super Show, Summer 2013 edition, is histoire. Man, what an awesome time. For those who weren't there - of which there were many - you missed some good stuff. Oh sure, you'll get a chance to check us all out again. But that was the perfect pill. Now you'll just have to get your Love Affair artists in smaller doses. You can handle it.
The biggest question of the night was whether Brandon Dooley and the Love Affair Allstars would be able to pull off the epic stage share equipment swaps, and it was answered immediately. The answer was... pretty much.. yes? Skydiver killed it in their very first show ever. Paul May and Brandon were both thrashing in unison, and both on bass guitars at times. Blake once again proved that a layoff from being on the stage was never enough to slow him down, as he grabbed the microphone and ripped it apart... metaphorically of course. Family Robot Seizure Show, as a four piece, proved to be able to bring at least their B game. And finally Iron Eyes got up and brought it back like it was 2001 all over again. In one hour of music, there was a definitive Judge Genius/Nail In The Brain vibe. Like a stroke of a brush, we were all transported on that stage to earlier times. And it was so damn awesome.
Way High Men took the stage after a quick break, and played an abbreviated set (Adam and Talley had pretty much already logged close to 45 minutes onstage already in the Allstars), but wowed with old songs and at least three new ones. Two Goats And Their Money free form jazzed the crowd, sweeping up experimental tones into their sonic dustbin, and shaking it up. I'd sum it up like this: Guitar synths + lots of pedals + a six string bass + Dan Thompson = me grinning from ear to ear. Finally 99000AD got up and laid down the funky jams. How funky? Well, lets just say this. They remember the set, but some of them kind of blacked out shortly after (We won't say whom). So how funky soul can funk soul get at that point? Pretty funk souly. Let's leave it at that.
And merch? The Love Affair Records Sign made it's way back to the corner that it graced 10 years ago in the rear of the Spanish Moon. Sure, there were different faces back by the table. There were different items for sale than you'd seen there a decade before. There were a lot of familiar faces, and a few faces we missed dearly. Thanks so very much to all of you who were there. It really meant the world to us. And to those who bought shirts, CD's, stickers, or even erroneously bought those copies of Dig Magazine we'd put back there, you're forever in our hearts. We'll keep you posted on the next one. Till then, go brush up on some of our music (on the music page!) or go listen to our podcast. And God bless your little soul.

Brandon Dooley and the Love Affair Allstars

Finalizing the lineup for the Love Affair Super show and we think you're gonna love. But part of the problem of having so many bands on a bill is set changes and avoiding scaring the shit out of the soundman. So we had to get a little creative. What do you do when you have too many bands to fit on a bill? The answer: Start another band?! Well..sorta.
Introducing the Brandon Dooley Love Affair Allstars. Or maybe Brandon Dooley AND the Love Affair Allstars? Maybe some cool hybrid name we've not yet thought of? It's all still kind of up for debate. But one thing that we totally love in this whole doohicky is that SECRETLY it's 3 bands worth of material being played. When you see this act billed anywhere, know that you'll be getting quality renditions of Skydiver songs, Iron Eyes/Nail In The Brain songs, and Family Robot Seizure Show songs. Plus there's always some surprises in the mix. Between the lot of us, there's a lot of bands in here. And between those lotta bands, there's a LOT of songs. WE get to play them for you, YOU don't probably give a shit about it - SO EVERYBODY WINS!

So just wanted to drop that on you, like it's hot.

Play on, playaz.

The Tards In Charge.

Dang. That There's A Lot Of Shows On Your Website, Paw!

Ok, look - booking shows is hard when everyone in your label is in like 8 bands. Not to mention, a couple cover bands between the lot of us. That said, there's some good news in it all. You could go see one of your pals in some musical endeavor damn near EVERY weekend. The bad news is that before any of us can book anything, chances are pretty good they're gonna have to consult everybody else. So we figured why not kill a couple birds with one stone and use this as a booking database of sorts. So now, click on the SHOWS tab (or maybe we call it TOUR, I don't remember - one or the other) and check out who's playing where.
There's two bands on there you might not recognize. Trainwreck is a cover project located in the Maurepas/Gonzales/St Amant/Sorrento area that features our very own Jason Choctaw Hall on vocals and guitar. Top Shelf is also a top 40 cover project featuring Mike Terito, Adam King, and Glenn Harris. Go get drunk and watch them both make awesome rock sounds. You'll be glad you did.

Love always,
The Love Affair Squadron

Super shows, Studios, New Bands and MOOOOOOOOOORE!

So it's been in pencil for a good long while, but we're happy to announce - it's officially IN INK! The Love Affair Super Show is gonna be July 26 at the Spanish Moon, featuring 99000AD, Way High Men, Two Goats and Their Money, Family Robot Seizure Show, Skydiver, some Judge Genius tunes (probably anyway), some Hilbun tunes, new merch AND ALL OTHER TYPES OF ILL SHIT (to quote Mikey T.) Don't miss the celebration, because it's definitely gonna be one for the books, boys.
Michael Talley reports that the all-new Love Affair Studios is nearing completion, and already has a couple band jams under it's belt. It will become the defacto home of Way High Men, Family Robot Seizure Show, and Skydiver. Not to mention blog-casting and webcams and impromptu jams and yes... web shows! Slap your momma, you say?! No, sons. It's real. And it's fantastic. We already got one picture up on our FB page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Love-Affair-Records/138133526364749) if you wanna see it (snicker)..
And friend us while your over there, you son of a bitch, why don'tcha?!
We're super stoked also to announce our old pal Paul May getting back into the mix. He's joining forces with the champion rock duo SKYDIVER (Brandon Dooley and Blake Sansone), and getting ready to blow your face clean off your skull with the riffage. New tunes forthcoming, but man, we can already report to you without question - it's gonna be so goshdamn awesome.
Finally. we have a special announcement. Some of your Love Affair brethren have saw it fit to rock you out even more often than our original shows can handle. So what do you do when you can't scratch that itch? You start a cover band, and how sweet it is. American Kids, featuring Adam King, Glenn Harris, and Mike Terito will be at Lava Cantina in Perkins Rowe THIS SATURDAY NIGHT! So load up your children, maybe get a coffee, and come watch the rock.

Turn it up, motherfuckers!
Team Love Affair.

Putting a big old show together soon - And the intro of Love Affair Studios!

If you got a chance to make it out the last WHM show at Gameday, boy you were in for a treat. What a great show and a great crowd. Thank you very much for your support through these years. I'll tell you this, it's a lot more rewarding when you have friends who come out to see you than not, and it certainly isn't lost on any one of us. Top Geaux'ld was also pretty bad ass. Kind of a QOTSA appeal. Nice stuff. We'll definitely be scheduling some stuff with those dudes in the future.

In the meantime, we're starting to talk about a SUPER SHOW! Not 100% sure on the date yet but looking like late July. Probably 99000AD, Way High Men, and Family Robot Seizure Show for sure - but why stop there? Maybe some Tabu, some Judge Genius tunes, some Two Goats, Skydiver, Iron Eyes... The list could get long. We're trying to sort it all out now but will be announcing soon, so stay tuned..

Also, just got word from Talley and Glenn that they've signed a lease on a house with an actual recording studio already built in. Talley sent the text yesterday outlining the specs with the words "It's time to go for this Love Affair endeavor." Um, sorry if we get a little to giddy here but... Are you ready, world? Because we're about to melt butter in your ears.

Love Affair Episode 3 Coming SOON!

Soooooo.... it was a pretty long weekend so we didn't get the chance to finish a new episode, but fear not - we're on it and will hopefully have something on it soon. It's gonna be a good one too, dangit. Unreleased faves from Judge Genius, another special call in mystery guest, some Poor Harvey, and plus some tunes that influenced us all along the way: Jesus Lizard, Beastie Boys, and other stuff that we don't own the copyrights to but are gonna podcast them anyway. Because we're lawbreakers. We're loners, Dotty. We're rebels.

WEEEEE!

New shows, new songs, new media

Man, we're busier at this label than a cat covering his poopoo in the litter box. FRSS is working on some new tunes AND a new lineup for the live show, Way High Men have a couple new ones, 99000AD wrote a new one (and it's good, yall). Plus we got the all new PODCAST talking about everything new we got coming out, plus tons of classics talking about where we came from. And no to mention, new SHOWS being added every other damn day. Who says there's nothing to listen to in this town, kids? Seriously.. Who? We're gonna kick their ass. Because that smack they're talking is nothing but damn lies!

The Love Affair Records Podcast debuts Tuesday, Mar 19

Wait - what? A podcast? That's right, Shirley. This past weekend saw the recording, production, and uploading of the first ever Love Affair Records Podcast. Although it was supposed to launch Sunday evening, we ran into a couple hiccups in the process - primarily on what hosting site we were going to use. But we finally settled on the good folks at Podbean.com. It's a fascinating little internet doohickey that allows you to not only download an individual app to your phone/desktop to hear new episodes, it also allows the player to be embedded. So you'll still be able to have loveaffairrecords.com be your one stop shop for all things label oriented.
The first episode will be available in it's entirety or broken down in 6 segments. You can kind of choose how you want to listen. It's pretty song heavy, with some unreleased live stuff you can't really hear on the music page, plus a really good interview with the Way High Men. All in all, the first episode is a whopping 80 minutes! I KNOW! LONG, HUH?! A little too long, in fact. So please listen to what you want and give us a little time to knock all the dust off. Next week's will be a short and concise 30 minutes or so. Maybe we were just so excited to be talking on the interwebs that we didn't really pay attention to limitations? Who knows.
Either way, it's gonna be a hoot. So keep your eyes peeled. New content launches momentarily.

Bless,
The kids.

Great show last night, now onto Thursday

Many many thanks to everyone who came out to the show last night. 99000AD killed it, and Dead Animals also rocked with no abandon. Many compliments to those that attended and also to the people who mentioned how tight we'd gotten, thanks so much for that.
This Thursday, it's Family Robot Seizure Show and LillyBrave at Chelseas. Hopefully this show will also slay. We hear they're gonna get those old coffee tables out of storage, and some old lamps. Miss this and there's just no reason to go on.

FRSS @ Chelsea's, Thursday 3.7.13

Last second show in the mix, but how else would we do it. We've just gotten word that Family Robot Seizure Show will be playing a quick early set next Thursday at Chelsea's. Since it's such late notice, they haven't been able to include a lot of the new record in the set but will certainly squeeze a couple out there. Plus Lafayette's own LillyBrave will be there...

Indie Rockers, Get fucked!

Man, some of this new school stuff. You dudes need to hang it up. You look like a bunch of poser bitches in the skinny jeans with the retro guitars. And the bullshit sound. Come on, bro. You shoulda been a DJ.

Ooooooh - Merch Rumors!

Sup,
Soooooo - a little bird told me that there's about to be a run of some new merch at the old Love Affair. In particular, some new Way High Men shirts. That'll be pretty snazzy, right? Keep your eyes peeled. Maybe if we're lucky, we can beat some of the designs out of those lads for your online perusing and oogling.

We'll letcha know more as it develops. Until then, just keep wearing all your normal clothes.

Love,
Those dickheads at the label.

Everybody's on board, hossfly.

The world keeps turning. And as it rotates, your pals in Love Affair are working hard to bring it to the next level. In the meantime, you'll notice that we keep adding content. Added a couple classic Way High Men vids on the music page, and some other stuff too. So that's alright, huh?
Last night, amongst discussions of the label progressing, 99000AD has a new song in the works. Should be ready for the show next Saturday. Wait... What? NEXT Saturday?! Oh that's right, fuckers. Next Saturday with fellow old schoolers, Dead Animals featuring Jata and Aaron Polk. And WHM has 2 or 3 new tracks in the works too. Will they be ready for April 6? Only time can tell. But what a great time to be friends with some of the raddest bands you know, amirite?
By the way, the answer is yes. I am right.
